Bilder (Images)
Each articles and spare parts in the product range is assigned an image or, if applicable, a representative image. Representative images should be generally marked in the dataset. Multiple images can be associated with one article. Regarding the use of image files, there is a distinction between web and print images. Each article must be assigned at least one of the following document types: Photorealistic Color Image, Photorealistic Black and White Image, Unscaled Image (Line Drawing), or Scaled Image (Line Drawing) (refer to the Document Type code list).
Distinguishing and Requirements for Images
Information for Image Files
The following information for image files is required for their association with an article:
Content | Description | Structure |
Document | Document File Name | Text 256 |
Document Type | Document type (image) as per Chapter 9.1.3 | Value list |
Image Usage | Web image or print image | Value list |
Representative Identification | Indication of whether the depicted item corresponds to the article or if it is a representative | ja/nein (yes/no) |
Document Designation | Content description/detailed description of documents. Example: 5 assembly instructions for an article without differentiation: Differentiation is possible in connection with the sort order. | Text 40 |
Document Sort Order | Specification of an order for multiple documents (including images) for the article for optimal use in target systems | Integer |
If more than one file is specified for an image type, the description and document sort order should be used to achieve differentiation of the files and a clear display.
In the case that identical images are provided in different formats and resolutions, these image associations should contain identical text in the "Document Designation" field to establish the context.

Article number | Document | Document Type | Image Usage | Representative Identification | Document Designation | Document Sort Order |

Guidance on Color Images and Line Drawings
Finding the right document types for images/documents is not always easy, as the boundaries are not always precisely defined. The following explanation aims to help clarify the differences between color images and line drawings.
Definition of Color Images and Line Drawings
Definition per DQR
However, there is a lot of room for interpretation here. Each manufacturer provides images in so many different qualities that it is challenging to definitively determine the document type.
After consultation with the wholesale distributor, a definition has been agreed upon:
All images that are in color or delivered in grayscale are considered as images and not as line drawings. Line drawings have no shading, grayscale, or color. A color image does not necessarily have to be a photograph but is simply photorealistic. Of course, there is a wide range of interpretation for "photorealistic" among manufacturers.
