Table of contents

Some PDF documents have tables of contents stored in the document. These can be integrated by manufacturers when creating PDF documents and are not created automatically. The information in this table of contents comes directly from the PDF document. The PDF viewer can recognize this as a table of contents and then displays the table of contents as follows:

...

You can then click on the individual headings in these tables of contents to jump to the corresponding page. The inclusion of a table of contents is therefore a quality feature of PDF documents. However, a table of contents is not necessary for every document. As a rule, manufacturers should integrate tables of contents into the PDF document for better navigation in product catalogs, price lists or spare parts catalogs.

Links in the table of contents

In PDF documents, links can be stored in various places in the document by manufacturers. These places can then be clicked on. Links are used on the page of, for example, a table of contents in a PDF document in order to jump directly to the relevant page. Providing links in the table of contents increases the usability within a PDF document and is therefore also a quality feature of PDF documents:

If you then jump to the search in the online shop, the search term is automatically entered into the search field and the search is carried out. You will then automatically receive the search results. The previously opened document remains visible to the user at the bottom of the screen, so that you can jump back here. If you click on the PDF document at the bottom of the screen, you can go back to the point in the document where the search was triggered.
