Description
For each item, up to five different packaging units can be specified. For each packaging unit, the packaging type, packaging quantity, and packaging quantity unit are presented. For each defined packaging unit, the required dimension and weight details, and usually a separate GTIN, are provided. The packaging units must be specified in ascending quantity of the contained item without gaps, with the respective quantity and weight details increasing progressively (details for PU 2 must be greater than in PU 1, see examples).
The dimensions of the packaging unit are specified with "Length", "Width", and "Height". "Length" and "Width" describe the base of the packaging unit in "usual" storage.
For article billed per length, area, volume, or weight, it is necessary to specify the smallest sales unit (regardless of the minimum order quantity) as the packaging type in PU 1.
Providing a GTIN for the packaging unit serves to identify the packaging unit and must always correspond to the packaging unit. The GTIN of the article can only be used if the quantity of the packaging unit is specified as "1". In this case, the GTIN must also be provided for the article. If a GTIN is specified for the packaging unit, a GTIN must also be present for the article. Exceptions are articles billed per length, area, volume, or weight, and articles not standardly individually packaged (packet screws).

Example for Package Unit 1 (PU1)
PU 1 corresponds to a PU quantity of 4 with the PU quantity unit CT (Carton).
Example for Package Unit 2 (PU2)
PU 2 corresponds to a PU quantity of 36 with the PU quantity unit PAL (Palette).
